Jo-C works with vibrant colors of her tropical heritage. Her images are descriptive of nature, encouraged by the smooth flow and spontaneity of watercolor and silk dyes. She approaches each painting as an adventure. She is inspired by artists like Winslow Homer, Cezanne and Kandinsky. Jo-C is nurse with a Master’s degree in Public Health from Tulane University and a Master of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Duke University. She has worked and painted in her native Philippines, France, Canada, the Democratic Republic of Congo and in Haiti. She studied under local artists like Vernon Pratt, William Noland and Anya Belkina. She also took workshops with national and international artist like Arne Westerman, Janet Walsh, William Lawrence, Serge Hollerbach, and Eric Wiegardt. She has won awards at exhibits by Kerr Lake Art Society, Person County Art Society, and Duke University Medical Center. She has had solo and group exhibits at Duke University, Orange County Historical Museum, North Carolina Botanical Gardens, Jerry’s Artarama, Cleveland County Fine Arts Gallery, and Chatham Hill Winery. She is represented in Durham, NC by Bull City Art and Frame at Brightleaf Square.
