Ethno Photographer Studio 3-111 I am an African American ethno/photographer. At the core of my work is documenting the lives and experiences of people of color throughout the world. I give particular interest to the descendants of Africa who are now living in the Western Hemisphere. My photography attempts to bring context to social documentation and cultural criticism by exploring contemporary issues through photographic representation. I want people to reveal themselves in ways that celebrate aspects of their lives that are typically hidden. My camera is a witness. It serves to illuminate their soul and create a visual record of an experience between two people: photographer and the person photographed. I believe a picture is what you see at one precise moment, never again repeated with the same honesty, clarity, and realism. Because of this I prefer documentary style photography. The core of my reasoning holds that documentary photographers attempt to find the essence of a singular event in the totality of their human experience. My task is to find an honest manner to visually construct more than simply a pictorial representation of a moment, but instead to reproduce, in photographic print, the distillation of a situation. The indefinable instant when subject and form come together to produce not merely a photographic description, but visual poetry.
