The Marcha Forzada photography exhibition tells the adventurous tale of a group of photographers who spent four days crossing Mexico City on foot during the summer of 2008. A mere eighteen miles as the crow flies, the trek itself was likely twice that distance, following a route through places of historical, political, and social importance.
The excursion spanned from Iztapalapa, one of the most marginalized areas of the city and home to the FARO, to perhaps the wealthiest, Santa Fe. In the process, the team took over 1,000 photos and endured numerous blisters, camera-shy prostitutes, run-ins with police, and encounters with interesting Chilangos—all in the name of broadening their urban horizons.
Marcha Forzada is an ongoing collaboration between Golden Belt Artist-in-Residence Peter Eversoll, and his students at the FARO de Oriente, a cultural center in Mexico City.
The group has intentions of creating different exhibitions and publications of their experience. To date, photos from this project have been shown at the Photographer’s Club in Mexico City, and now at Golden Belt in Durham, North Carolina.
