This is Bull City is a comical, tongue-in-cheek depiction of Durham’s past—a fictitious history of the Bull City, loosely based on real events but mostly conceived of by imaginative visual artist Casey Robertson. Viewers must look beneath the city’s sidewalks and coats of fresh paint in the midst of another renaissance and rediscover those key elements that give Durham its gusto and really put the “bull” in the Bull City.
Artist Statement
In the short time it's taken for Casey Robertson to reach the age of 32, he's lived in 13 states in the US. He's traveled a little bit, read, and stared out of car, plane and bus windows for a significant portion of those years. Through those windows, he's observed the characters, markings, detritus, victory and defeat of all things intrinsically American, and it is that imagery that informs and advises his work.
