Subjective Exploration of Sikhi

Shanny Kohli, a Durham-based visual artist, has created a series of conceptual images that together comprise a spiritual and theatrical act that tells the story of Sikhs. The artwork shows a range of different representations of the ten Sikh Gurus and their teachings (“Sikhi”), which underscore equality, fighting against injustice, and uplifting our fellow humans in need. Shanny commands a clear grasp of the fundamentals of design principles, harmony and 2D space and showcases a transformation of different biomorphic objects and geometric shapes combined to form an artistic impression. Shanny draws inspiration from her Sikh faith, multinational background, beautiful surroundings, and vivid imagination. Her drive to continually create visual concepts is what she calls happiness.
