The Textile Art of Debbie Secan

Debbie Secan fell in love with weaving as a teenager and has worked with woven structures ever since, in the textile industry and as a fine artist. She finds the subject matter for her work in the two places she calls home, the woods outside of Raleigh and the tides of Topsail Island. Debbie is particularly interested in the merging of paint, textiles and weaving. The materials in her work are repurposed for environmental reasons and to exploit the breadth of resources we discard. Debbie was raised in Winston-Salem and studied weaving, textile design and art at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Rhode Island School of Design, Shenkar College in Israel, and NCSU from where she has a Masters in Art and Design. Her studio is located in Artspace in downtown Raleigh, NC.  Debbie’s work has been exhibited at 311 Gallery and Artpace in Raleigh, Durham Art Guild and The Fine Art League of Hilton Head.
